How To Choose Your Yoga Mat

You may already have a yoga mat, or one in mind, but maybe it’s not the right one for you. How do you know? Regardless, whether you are just getting started with your yoga journey or have gathered plenty of experience, you are coming to understand just how personal and special the yoga mat you choose is to your practice.

We are here to help you make this choice.

Let’s start by learning the most basic knowledge every yoga mat enthusiast (that’s you) should know:

__________________________________________________________

Open or Closed-Cell?

Basically, do you care if your yoga mat is made of a material that absorbs moisture?

Let’s break it down:

Open-cell: absorbs water and moisture. More comfy in sweaty situations. Good traction. Hard to fully clean. Can create a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi overtime. Less dense materials tend to wear out more quickly. Open-cell is good for hot yoga and more sweaty practitioners. Will need to replace mat sooner. Can combine with mat towel to help the life of the product.

Closed-cell: Denser than open-cell. More resistant to wear and is waterproof. Hygienic and easily cleaned. Slick surface can become hard to practice on and can be uncomfortable. Closed-cell is a good choice for those who don’t sweat as much or require a lot of traction.

All 11 different types of yoga mats contain multiple characteristics, the seven categories below are important qualities yogis value in their mat.

What do you value? Order this list from greatest to least before selecting your mat:

1. Environmentally-Friendly

2. Germaphobe
3. Travel Bug
4. Hot Yoga Prone
5. Easy Maintenance
6. Durability
7. Price (under $20)

Now, you can choose!

All of our yoga mats have been tear-tested, so durability isn’t an issue. Some mats are more durable than others, so that listed quality will be at an extreme. Each of the yoga mats below have their top 3-4 characteristics listed for reference.

Good Luck!

1. Natural Rubber

OPEN-CELL | ENVIRONMENTAL | DURABLE | HOT YOGA

Looking for a top quality environmentally-friendly yoga mat? You can't go wrong with our 5mm thick Natural Rubber Mat. Its open-cell surface is naturally slip-resistant, made with no PVC or toxic materials or ozone-depleting substances. Waste is minimized during production, recycling back into the process for even an eco-friendly production. The Para rubber tree this mat is made from instinctively helps to balance the carbon in the atmosphere, with a quick healing time for the tree due to its natural latex sap production. Enjoy your practice knowing you have contributed no harm to the environment! Measurements include 72”x 24 x 5mm."

2. Premium Weight

OPEN-CELL | DURABLE | EASY MAINTENANCE

Our popular Premium Weight Yoga Mat is a top-performance yoga mat. This extra thick, high stability mat weighs more than 5 pounds (indicative of its density), so it offers the highest performance and comfort you'd expect from a professional grade yoga mat. The 100% latex-free mat has maximum support and cushioning, plus, it provides an added level of non-slip stability on almost any surface. A textured surface provides extra traction for balancing poses. If you're serious about your yoga practice, this premium yoga mat is guaranteed to satisfy. Measurements include 72” x 24” x ¼."

3. Eco-Lite
