Many people like to take out their frustration and pound their fists or punch a punching bag. But what can you do when you have to contain your frustration? Here are some exercises:

  • First, understand what exactly is making you frustrated. Is it your situation, a person, a comment? Analyze this to become more in touch with yourself.

  • Then, think about what is in your control. What can you do about this frustration? Can you talk to someone about it, can you confront someone, or can you change your situation?

  • Finally, take a few slow deep breaths and as you exhale, try to let go of the frustration. While breathing may be the last thing you want to do when you get frustrated, you’re actually training yourself to deal with frustration and negative emotions more productively than physically taking out your frustration.
