If you’re exercising at home, here are some tips to up the intensity and make your workout more effective:

  • Turn the music louder than usual, or if you don’t usually use music, create a playlist! Studies show that music with faster beats causes you to work out harder and longer.

  • Reduce your rest periods. Instead of pausing in between sets or exercises, add in an exercise with a different body part. So instead of resting after working your legs for 10 squats, do 10 push-ups to work your arms.

  • Add in more cardio. You can run in place, do jumping jacks, jump rope, do mountain climbers, whatever you’d like. Increase your heart rate by adding in 2-minute cardio intervals.
