During your yoga practice, instead of comparing yourself to others in the class, focus on boosting your self-esteem. Here are some techniques:

  • Set a personal intention for yourself for the class. It can be something like “I am focusing on being present,” or “I am happy to be here.”

  • You can also pick out a part of your body that you have been struggling with and start trying to accept it. For example, if you’ve been struggling to lose belly fat, you can say to yourself, “Even though I am not happy with my stomach, I accept my stomach.” Accepting your body is the first step towards having a better relationship with yourself and eventually positively changing your body.

  • Finally, pick a character trait that you’ve been working on, such as having more compassion for yourself. Repeat to yourself, “I am compassionate towards myself.” This will make you feel better about yourself and boost your self-esteem.
