Every yogi needs a little boost – or, specifically, a foam wedge.
In the practice of yoga, it’s important not to overextend yourself. That’s why yoga wedges are invaluable props for this ancient art. They are made of a firm, scratch-resistant foam that is lightweight, soft to the touch and tapered at the edges. Available in purple or blue, each one is 20 inches long, 6 ½ inches wide and 2 inches tall. These dimensions make the wedges suitable for yogis of all sizes.
So why, exactly, should you use yoga wedges? To provide extra support and length in a wide range of poses, especially those that prompt you to bend forward. During such a pose, you can place one under your heels, knees, sit bone or wrists. This gently pushes you forward, making it simpler for your hands to rest flat on the floor. Without the prop, you may not even be able to touch the floor. It helps keep your form correct as you stretch into a pose.
With every yoga session, you’ll find yourself eager to go deeper and deeper into a pose. The wedge is an excellent tool for beginners, but just beneficial to advanced practitioners. Perhaps you’re a longtime yogi, but suddenly find yourself with a sensitive wrist. You can’t give up yoga, of course – it’s too critical for your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Instead, slide a wedge underneath your wrists when performing Downward Dog; this will reduce the stress on your joints.
You can also utilize these portable and eco-friendly yoga wedges outside of yoga class to improve your posture. During yoga, placing a wedge underneath your sit bone helps you reach forward into a deep stretch. But just sitting on this prop can make your back, spine and whole body feel better. Rather than fling yourself on the lumpy couch when you’re watching television, reading a book or chatting on the phone, enlist a proper chair and wedge to improve your posture. You’ll find these wedges useful in everyday life, not just yoga class. |
